Hollywood’s finest was out once again in full force in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 11 to kick off one of the high points of awards season: the Golden Globes. While high fashion reigns supreme in terms of interest for such events, we watch people naturally love to look at who is wearing what on their wrists.

This year there was once again a proliferation of OMEGA, which we spotted on the wrists of no less than nine stars during the evening. George Clooney has, of course, been an OMEGA ambassador for many years, so his wrist choice wasn’t all that surprising. Nominated for his role in Jay Kelly, he wore a Seamaster Aqua Terra in stainless steel with a turquoise-colored gradient dial, which provided an interesting contrast to his classic black tux and bow tie.

Friend of the brand Colman Domingo, who was a presenter, went for a sporty 38 mm stainless steel Speedmaster and dark green dial but set with diamonds on the bezel to pop against his classic black Valentino suit boldly adorned with a sparkling flock of ivy-shaped Boucheron brooches cascading along his lapel in a stunning show of statement jewelry. Golden Globe winner Wagner Moura (Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for The Secret Agent) wore a 40 mm De Ville Trésor in stainless steel with a diamond-set bezel with his white Maison Margiela double-breasted jacket. Paul W. Downs of “Hacks” sported an elegantly simple De Ville Trésor in stainless steel on a black leather strap with a silvery dial to accompany the sizable Roseau diamond brooch by Boucheron that featured prominently on his lapel. I find it pleasantly interesting that the imaginary line between “men’s” and “women’s” jewelry and watches has definitively begun blurring, with these actors successful and stunning examples of just that.

Another sporty OMEGA watch appeared on the wrist of Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role – Drama Stellan Skarsgård for his role in Sentimental Value. Skarsgård wore a 38 mm Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades in Moonshine Gold with a green dial and strap. Heartthrob du jour Glen Powell, nominated for his starring role in the hilarious Hulu comedy “Chad Powers,” also wore a Seamaster Aqua Terra in Moonshine Gold, but his featured a dark blue dial and gold bracelet that perfectly complemented his velvety dark blue dinner jacket.

Three more Speedmasters were also in attendance: Patrick Schwarzenegger (the son of screen legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred in “White Lotus” season 3) wore a 42 mm Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional in Moonshine Gold, while Timothy Simons (“Nobody Wants This”) wore a 38 mm Speedmaster in Sedna Gold with a diamond-set bezel and brown dial. And presenter and comedian Marlon Wayans wore a 42 mm Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional in white Canopus Gold with a diamond-set bezel and silvery dial.
Audemars Piguet makes appearances

Continuing the blurring of gender lines as it applies to watches, Mark Ronson sported a borrowed 34 mm Carolina Bucci-inspired Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding in an 18-karat yellow “frosted” gold that really makes this piece shimmer. The dial is decorated with the new embossed “Crystal Sand” finish, also in a gold look.
Tramell Tillman of “Severance” chose to wear a Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked, which comes in a 39 x 8.1 mm white gold case and whose dial, as the name professes, is openworked to show off movements parts – in this case quite monochromatically with the red of the ruby jewels the only source of color pops. Sterling K. Brown went more classic with his choice, a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in a 41 x 9.5 mm stainless steel case and blue Grand Tapisserie dial offering ultimate functionality.
Comedian Kevin Hart, a known watch collector with a decided focus on Audemars Piguet, chose to wear a vintage Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in yellow gold. He was nominated for his special in the stand-up category.
Other collectors and connoisseurs chose Cartier and Rolex

Kevin Hart isn’t the only known watch guy to show up at the Golden Globes wearing something special. Michael B. Jordan, a watch guy who has even been a brand ambassador for Piaget in the past, wore an especially classy vintage Patek Philippe Hour Glass model in platinum with diamond-set markers.
Rolex of course made many appearances throughout the evening – most notably on the wrist of Leonardo DiCaprio, who was nominated for his leading role in One Battle After Another. DiCaprio, also a known watch collector, wore a Daytona Le Mans 100th Anniversary in white gold. This watch sent some murmurs through the collecting community as it is one of the few introduced in 2023 in honor of the anniversary of the legendary 24-hour race that gives this watch its name. It was discontinued only 10 months after it appeared.
Kevin O’Leary of “Shark Tank” fame (though he was in attendance for his role as Milton Rockwell in Marty Supreme) often double wrists and does so with his trademark red straps. On Golden Globes evening one of his chosen watches was a Cartier Asymétrique Skeleton.
Walton Goggins, who has built an amazing following with his roles in “White Lotus” and “Fallout,” sported a vintage Cartier Tonneau in yellow gold from the 1980s on a bracelet. Paul Mescal also wore vintage Cartier from the 1980s, a Tortue to be exact. He is an official Cartier ambassador and has been seen rocking fun watches from the brand’s past on the red carpets.
Jennifer Lawrence, an official ambassador for Longines, wore perhaps the most surprising watch of the evening considering her attire: a cocktail watch apparently from the Longines archives from the year 1916. While this watch oozes old-school glamour, the floor-length sheer “naked” dress by Givenchy that was for me the best dress of the evening oozes the newest glamour style possible. The contrast is as striking and wonderful as the bevy of watch spotting I did while enjoying the show.
